The Great Star Theater has a storied history, with countless managers, volunteers, and artists who have contributed towards making it was it is today. As we honor that history and marshal the community, we want to share a bit about who is driving the reopening of the Great Star Theater for a new age.
The new executive director of the Great Star Theater is Roger Pincombe, and along with Alice Chu (Pei Chu) they have secured a 10 year lease on the building and are leading the nonprofit organization that manages the theater.
Roger first moved to San Francisco 9 years ago and is proud of his dual background in tech and theater, and he is always looking for new opportunities to bring together the sometimes fractious tech and arts communities in San Francisco. Alice hails from Xuchang, China, and has also adopted San Francisco as her home over the last decade. She is excited to bring together the traditional Chinese residents of San Francisco Chinatown with newer transplants and western communities. They both strongly believe that the more we share our cultures and get to know other races, industries, and backgrounds, the more we all can thrive together.
Roger and Alice are supported by a board of directors with a range of backgrounds, from the arts, technology, financial, and legal fields. And of course, none of this would be possible without the massive community support from both the Chinatown community and wider Bay Area art and entertainment scenes. Thank you so much for all of your support.
We plan of featuring a mix of local Bay Area and world-renown performances from a variety of genres, including ballets, cabarets, magic, concerts, and Chinese Operas. We are also looking towards hosting multi-cultural movie screenings from local and global directors alike. If you know an event, producer, or film you think would be a great fit for the Great Star Theater, please don't hesitate to reach out!
